Théâtre national de Chaillot offers a residence program for talented choreographers and dancers. Yasutake Shimaji will be the first Japanese artist to participate in the program.
Chaillot created a residence program to provide creative opportunities for talented choreographers and dancers from around the world. Japanese dancer-choreographer Yasutake Shimaji will be the first Japanese to participate in the program. Shimaji, who has experience with some of the leading companies in Europe, is widely recognized for his outstanding techniques and creativity, and was chosen from a long list of candidates. Shimaji will stay in Paris for about a month and work with two Japanese dancers and a Japanese musician in a studio at Chaillot to create a new dance piece on Japanese onomatopoeia, of which there are believed to be over 4,500. Their creation will be revealed as a work in progress to those involved in French theater.
