Vitality of Local Cultures and Matsuri
In close collaboration with several local authorities of the prefectures and cities, a week of events will be devoted to folkloric arts characteristic from different regions in Japan and to local cultures, preserved and transmitted by the inhabitants. The richness of Japanese cultural diversity will be honored, providing an opportunity for the public to discover these unknown facets of Japan.
La Maison de la culture du Japon in Paris will dedicate several days to the presentation of this regional culture that has developed under a multiplicity of forms, relating each to its own history and to what differentiates them from one another: how each region values, preserves and passes its culture on to the next generation. An entertaining program is planned, with some 15 folk performances, demonstrations and workshops on making local crafts, photography exhibitions, conferences, etc.
The week’s highlight will take place in the Jardin d’Acclimatation of Paris, which will be transformed, on the weekend of 20th to 22nd of October, into a large stage of popular entertainment, with seven Matsuri from Japan. Visitors will therefore be able to participate in this whirlwind of festivities. Inside the Jardin d’Acclimatation, an installation of yatai (small, mobile food stalls) is also planned, offering regional food specialties as well as tourism booths.
